On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mariscos Costa Azul” located at Belisario Domínguez in C. 11, Libertad. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a shrimp taco with chipotle priced at $3.03 dollars ($50 pesos) and a batter fried shrimp taco priced at $1.51 dollars ($25 pesos).
Batter Fried Shrimp Taco
This taco has batter fried shrimp, cream, cabbage, green salsa, pico de gallo, and it is served on a corn tortilla. When he tried it, Chef Danny was taken aback because he had asked for a batter fried fish taco, so the shrimp took him by surprise. He said that “it was okay” because he was also curious about this taco.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that the batter was interesting because, even though it wasn’t crunchy, it had a very good flavor. Though it had a good thickness that allowed him to taste it, it made the shrimp lose a little bit of flavor. The cream helped to lighten up the taco. The tortilla was relatively small and steamed and it could not withstand the weight and broke. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.0.
Price: $1.51 dollars ($25 pesos)
Shrimp Taco with Chipotle
This taco has shrimp with chipotle, salsa, cabbage, pico de gallo, cream, and it is served on a corn tortilla. The tortilla had been greased a little bit, but it wasn’t completely fried.
When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that the chipotle salsa in the shrimp was quite good because he was able to taste the pepper without it being spicy. He added that the tortilla was missing intensity in its flavor and that the cabbage and pico de gallo overtook everything. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.8.
Price: $3.03 dollars ($50 pesos)
