Tijuana is once again the talk of the international landscape thanks to the talent of Karla López, who was recognized by Live Design International as one of Latin America's best designers and lighting programmers.
This makes her the first Mexican woman in history to receive this honor. Recalling her beginnings at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) Theater, she has studied to make her way to a successful international lighting and design career.
Her incredible talent has aided and supported several renowned and international artists such as Los Ángeles Azules, Guaynaa, Lenny Tavarez, Kany García, DannyLux, among many others, as well as major festivals such as Baja Beach Fest, EDC México, Corona Capital, Coachella, Tecate Península, Tecate Pa’l Norte, and more.
On December 8, the Live Design International (LDI) Expo took place. This international event featured the attendance of national and international design, electronic design, and digital technology exhibitors, as well as professional industry leaders.
Karla López was invited as a speaker to give a talk where she spoke about her creative processes, the art of designing, and programming lighting for live concerts.
She also presented the book "Collected Light Volume Three: Women in Entertainment Lighting" —featuring a section on her amazing career and story— together with the Women in Lighting platform, sponsored by Ayrton/ACT Entertainment.
Once her talk ended, LDI executive producers and senior members congratulated López on her career in Latin America as well as for being the first Mexican woman to give a 40-minute conference in English at this event.
Who is Karla López?
As previously mentioned, Karla López obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Theater from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) and started her lighting career at this university's Rubén Vizcaíno Theater.
Later, she continued her professional work by working with international lighting companies. She also decided to study a second major, Computing and Programming at Microsoft University, and took Photometry workshops with Oxford University.
According to Karla, to get to her position, she also studied Neurology and Ophthalmology. Her primary goals are to describe the audience's physiological responses and experiment with extrasensory levels through her creative processes to create new human science-based lighting concepts.
