First Alamar Bridge Node in Tijuana Inaugurated with Mural Featuring Boxer Julio César Chávez

This incredible artwork is part of a series of 100 murals designed to promote art and culture in Tijuana.

The first Alamar Bridge node was recently inaugurated during a ceremony presided over by Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño. As part of government-led initiatives prioritizing art and cultural promotion, Tijuana's 25th City Council paid tribute to former Mexican professional boxer Julio César Chávez with a stunning 900-meter-long mural.

Mayor Burgueño emphasized the importance of reclaiming public spaces and transforming them through art to enhance the city’s image by creating revitalized and renewed areas.

This mural is part of a broader strategy that includes 100 murals painted by local artists across public spaces in Tijuana. The project seeks to honor Tijuana’s historical heritage while promoting environmental protection, social equality, and a strengthened sense of community identity as a collective responsibility.

Mayor Burgueño also noted that the effort, resilience, and perseverance exemplified by the former world boxing champion serve as an inspiration for all Mexicans. Chávez was honored with this mural as part of the Curarte: Un Legado a Tijuana project, created by urban artist Jorge Sánchez, known as “Jofras.”

"We are delighted to honor Julio César Chávez, a figure who has put Mexico on the map and demonstrated perseverance and strength throughout his life. I want to tell my friend that this tribute comes from the heart. You have left a great legacy, and it is truly an honor to be part of this project," said Mayor Burgueño.

Carlos Torres Torres, Coordinator of Strategic Projects, added: "I believe Mayor Ismael Burgueño could not have chosen a better mural to launch this remarkable project of 100 murals across Tijuana. It’s an extraordinary beginning."

Meanwhile, Julio César Chávez expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition: "Tijuana is my second home. This city welcomed me when I first arrived as a young fighter. The people embraced me, and I stayed here. I want to thank the Municipal President for this tribute. I am deeply honored and very happy to receive this recognition."

During the event, held at the junction of Vía Rápida Norte and Bulevar Manuel Jesús Clouthier, urban artists explained the mural’s elements while attendees toured the area.
