The Mayor of Playas de Rosarito, Rocio Adame Muñoz, in collaboration with the Women's Institute of Baja California (INMUJER BC), successfully organized the 5K "No a la Violencia" Race as part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign to combat gender-based violence.
With 450 runners participating, the race became a powerful symbol of unity and dedication in the fight against gender-based violence. Every step taken reaffirmed the participants' commitment to building a fairer, more equitable society.
"Today, we have demonstrated that together we are stronger and that we can create a Rosarito free of violence. I want to thank all participants, sports clubs, and institutions that made this event possible," stated Mayor Rocio Adame Muñoz.
The mayor extended her gratitude to the participating sports clubs (Chechos Team, Club Rosarito Runners, Team Rueda, Club Jaguares, Club Osos Running, Club Potros, and Club Hércules), as well as to Laura Marmolejo Toscano, Director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California; Diana Briseño Robles, Director of INMUJER Ensenada; and the Secretariat of Health, which contributed through assistance centers.
Mónica Vargas Núñez, Director of INMUJER BC, emphasized the importance of initiatives like this to raise awareness about gender-based violence and strengthen services that support women in need. "With every race and every initiative, we take a step closer to a future where all women can live free from violence," she stated.
The winners received prizes such as lodging certificates, meals, and sports class scholarships:
-Disability Category: 1st Place: Pepito; 2nd Place: Isidro Coyot; 3rd Place: Jesús Rueda.
-Female Category: 1st Place: Vianey Santa Clara (Club Potros); 2nd Place: Guadalupe Cano (Club Potros); 3rd Place: Ariana Ávila (Club Jaguares).
-Male Category: 1st Place: Richard Pérez (Club Potros); 2nd Place: Jesús Santa Clara (Club Potros); 3rd Place: Javier Eduardo Alzalde.
Beyond promoting physical activity and health, the "5K No a la Violencia” Race also served a noble cause, collecting feminine hygiene product donations for battered women’s shelters.
