On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to "El Poblano Jr." located at Av. Diego Rivera 2386, Zona Urbana Río Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two dishes: an adobada taco priced at $2.11 dollars ($36 pesos) and an asada vampiro priced at $3 dollars ($52 pesos).
Adobada Taco
This taco has adobada, onion, cilantro, guacamole, red salsa, and it is served on two store bought corn tortillas. Before he tried it, Chef Danny said that he could detect that the avocado was made a while ago, as it looked somewhat "rusty" and darker, which is what happens when avocado is exposed to the air too much.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised by the salsa's spiciness. Personally speaking, Chef Danny didn't really like that the adobada meat had been griddled, as it loses its flavor. He was not able to taste the guacamole in the taco. The tortillas had good maize touches and were well hydrated, despite being from a package. When he took another bite, Chef Danny said that he felt that he was eating a chorizo taco. This is why this taco gets a rating of 4.8.
Price: $2.11 dollars ($36 pesos)
Asada Vampiro
This tostada has carne asada, guacamole, huevona salsa, cheese, and it is served on a corn tostada. The first thing to note about this was the change of the guacamole color, which looked shiny green compared to the taco.
Chef Danny stated that when he took a bite, he was able to taste the freshness of the guacamole, both its flavor and texture. The vegetables and salsa also added freshness. The meat and the tostada contrasted due to their coal flavor. Though the cheese was not completely grilled, it had good flavor touches. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.8.
Price: $3 dollars ($52 pesos)
