“Tacos Varios Mary” in Tijuana barely passes due to their bitter and dry flavor

Chef Danny also tried a chicharron taco in green salsa with a sauce full of flavor

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Varios Mary” located at Blvd. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz #14500, Jardines de La Mesa. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a breaded fish taco and a chicharron in green salsa taco, both priced at $2 dollars ($35 pesos).

Chicharron in Green Salsa Taco

This taco has chicharron in green salsa, beans, rice, and it is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that the tortillas had a good size, as they were big.

When he tried it, Chef Danny noticed three ingredients with a very subtle flavor which were the rice, the beans, and the tortillas. However, the rice had a pasty consistency. On the other hand, the chicharron salsa was the highlight due to its great flavor and its spiciness. Something that Chef Danny didn’t really like was that the chicharron didn’t have meat, as it was only pig skin which meant that it was very limp and didn’t have any consistency. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.2.

Breaded Fish Taco

This taco has breaded fish fillet, beans, rice, purple onion, pico de gallo with nopal, red salsa, and it is served on two corn tortillas. When he tried it, Chef Danny said that due to its color, he could feel that there was too much bread in the fish, and it had burned a little. The taco had all of its ingredients and a very big size.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised because the taco had a good serving size and thickness. The fish used had a lot of flavor and firm texture. Something that did not help was the bread, as it had a bitter touch due to it being burned. Just like the previous taco, the beans and rice were lacking in flavor. However, the salsa did not have this problem; it was spicy, but very delicious. Though the vegetables were trying to enhance the taco, it was too dry due to all the ingredients which is why this taco gets a rating 6.6.
