On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Varios Polo” located at Joaquín Clausel, Zona Río. Here he tried two tacos: a stuffed pepper taco and a milanesa taco, both priced at $1.4 dollars ($28 pesos). One will surely be a delicacy for those who love spicy food.
Stuffed Pepper Taco
This taco has a stuffed pepper with cheese, a bed of rice and beans, green salsa with pork rind, and is served on two handmade white corn tortillas. The pork rind was an extra bonus, as the green salsa that is used in the taco is the same one used for the pork rind in green sauce.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that the tortilla had a good flavor. However, the pepper had a hard texture, a sign that it had not been cooked for the appropriate time. The batter couldn’t be tasted either and the pepper had very little filling. Generally speaking, this taco had a neutral flavor which is why it gets a rating of 6.3.
Price: $1.4 dollars ($28 pesos)
Milanesa Taco
This taco has beef milanesa, a bed of rice and beans, pickled onion, bird beak’s chile salsa, and is served on two handmade corn tortillas. Before he tried it, our host said that, just by looking at it, the salsa looked quite spicy and it looked like it “would make anyone suffer.”
Chef Danny confirmed this when he took his first bite as it was a very spicy salsa. According to him, it would score an 8.6/10 on the spiciness scale. The milanesa had a soft texture, and since it only had a few beans one could taste the ingredients much better. The pickled onion with jalapeños gave it the sourness level that it needed which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.7.

“Tacos Varios Polo” is not currently registered in Google Maps, but here is their location:
