Jenni Rivera plans concert in Tijuana

Tickets go on sale Friday for April performance

TIJUANA – Latin music star Jenni Rivera plans a concert April 21 in the bullring by the sea, her promoter announced Thursday.

The so-called "Diva de la banda" is one of the most popular entertainers in the border region. She drew 29,000 fans to Estadio Caliente in 2010 and a year later some 26,000 despite a tremendous rainstorm

For the upcoming concert, Rivera will not only be backed by a banda and mariachi band, she will be accompanied by orchestra musicians when she performs her ballads.

Her brother, Juan, also will accompany her, as well as the group Vagos de Sinaloa and the former member of the Explosión Norteña, Javier Ramírez.

The Mexican-American singer, one of Latin America's most popular entertainers, has sold more than 20 million albums.

Tickets for the concert at the Plaza Monumental de Playas de Tijuana will cost 100 to 150 pesos (about $8 to $13) for the first 1,000 people who buy them on Friday.

Afterward, the tickets will cost 200 pesos ($15.65), 400 pesos ($31) and 700 pesos ($55), while preferred and VIP seating will cost 1,000 pesos ($78) and 1,200 pesos ($94).

The tickets will be sold at the box office of the Gran Hotel Tijuana, located on the second floor.
