The head of the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI), Kurt Honold Morales, officially launched the Semiconductor Training Program together with Santander Universidades and collaborating with Emtech Institute and Arizona State University in an initiative that promises to innovate the industry in Mexico.
At the Center of Excellence in Competition and Entrepreneurship of CETYS Universidad, an event where both the program and the Center of Excellence in Semiconductors were presented took place. The latter is an agency that will coordinate between the government, schools, and the industry and participants who will be trained in this project.
They also spoke about work councils in order to collaborate with companies such as Skyworks, Qualcomm, and Infineon to exchange information, skill development, research, and innovation in the industry.
Among the people present, there were the rector of Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Luis Enrique Palafox; from Universidad Tecnológica de Tijuana, Salvador Morales Riubí; the General Director of Universidad Iberoamericana, Florentino Badial, the Deputy Secretary of Investment Management, Rodolfo Andrade, and the Director of Innovation and Technology, Dulce Rodríguez López, among many other authorities.
With this initiative, they are looking to train at least 110 teachers belonging to 18 educational institutions in Baja California through the development of specialized competencies, in order to take advantage of semiconductors as a key piece for the technological progress in several industries.

In May, the call for this program was opened and it will remain so until December of this year, focusing on 2 key areas: "Semiconductor Design" and "Backend Manufacturing."
Morales explained that, among all Mexican states, Baja California has shown to have better opportunities to challenge other countries and regions in this regard, being talent a fundamental part so that this industry triumphs.
It should be noted that of the total of accepted participants, most of them are from Tijuana. They are distributed in the following way: 42% from Tijuana, 34% from Mexicali, 22% from Ensenada, and 2% from Tecate, with women comprising 24.5% and men 75.5%.
Baja California: Leading states in the semiconductor development industry
The Secretary of Economy had previously stated that Baja California has, little by little, become a leader in investment in Mexico, mainly in the area of production and development of semiconductors. This statement was made at the "Accelerating the Semiconductor Industry in Mexico" Forum which took place in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Such has been its impact in this industry that the state could become the venue of the 2025 edition of this event, where the latest trends, labor issues, and other related topics will be addressed.
