On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Varios Los Tíos” located at Universidad 14418, UABC, Parque Internacional Industrial Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a meat tortita taco and a chicharron in red salsa taco, both priced at $2.05 dollars ($35 pesos).
Meat Tortita Taco
This taco has meat tortitas, pico de gallo, nopales, green salsa, beans, rice, and it is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that the tortillas were “sliced” as one can find pieces of them throughout the taco. The taco was also big and heavy.
When he tried it, Chef Danny noticed a touch of sourness (either due to the pico de gallo or the sauce) that helped to contrast the tortitas, beans, and rice. Though the tortillas were a little bit dry, both were “strong” as they did not break due to the weight of the taco. The rest of the ingredients was a good complement, which is why this taco gets a rating of 7.9.
Price: $2.05 dollars ($35 pesos)
Chicharron in Red Salsa Taco
This taco has chicharron in red salsa, beans, rice, and it is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing that Chef Danny highlighted is that that the chicharron was “one of the good ones”, as it had pieces of meat and its salsa looked like it would be good.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that the salsa had a good level of salt and sourness, and that it was somewhat spicy and wrapped the protein quite well. The beans and the rice were a very good complement. Our host did not really like the tortillas though, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.1.
