On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mr. Birria” located at Av. Paseo del Río 3era Etapa del Río Tijuana. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a birria taco and a chicharron taco both priced at $1.94 dollars ($35 pesos).
Birria Taco
This taco has birria, onion, cilantro, red salsa, and is served on two corn tortillas. Our host said that, at first glance, the salsa had a very intense color which made him think it was quite spicy. Both tortillas had an average size and were drenched in the birria’s grease.
When he took his first bite, he confirmed his theory as the salsa was indeed quite spicy. Both tortillas and the meat had very good flavor, and they were very soft and juicy. The birria was described as “light birria” as it wasn’t very seasoned and it wasn’t very greasy. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.9.

Chicharron Taco
This taco has pressed chicharron, adobo, onion, cilantro, and is served on two corn tortillas. One of the things Chef Danny really liked was that the two tortillas were fried.
When he tried the taco, he felt a smoked flavor though he does not know if it had been smoked or if it got burned at the bottom. However, this smoked touch was good. The chicharron had meat which increased the flavor and improved the texture. The adobo reminded him a little bit of the one used for cochinita pubil, but with a sourness level that did not overwhelm. Both the tortillas and the vegetables added positive things to this taco, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.3.
