The first confirmed case of Delta variant in Baja California was notified this morning by the head of the State Health Secretariat, Alonso Pérez Rico. The person diagnosed was a physician who 28 days ago presented symptoms, was tested, was analyzed, and yesterday it was reported that he had tested positive for Delta variant.
This patient had his complete vaccination schedule, had three days of mild symptoms, then he was asymptomatic, and today he is completely recovered, detailed Pérez Rico, who emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19. The Secretary commented that in order to detect the Delta variant, a specific halogen test must be performed, and not a PCR.
On the other hand, he pointed out that of the 40 people who died from coronavirus in the Entity from July 1 to July 19, 30 did not have a complete vaccination schedule, while the remaining 10 had it but incomplete (they had just been vaccinated or had not gone for their second dose).
"This is reliable proof that the vaccine can save your life, do not miss the opportunity to get your second dose," said Pérez Rico.
At the same time, he commented that it has been analyzed whether this variant affects more young people under 18 years of age, and so far "there is no significant increase" to prove it, but it will continue to be monitored, he assured.
Currently 30 people are hospitalized with a ventilator in Baja California, of which 29 are not vaccinated, and the other has an incomplete vaccination schedule.
