Tijuana Paint Factory Fire Possibly Result of Negligence

Depends on the results of the ongoing investigation

TIJUANA - The fire that broke out on this past Monday on a Sherwin-Williams paint factory in Tijuana may be the result of a failure in protocol by the company and so it could be fined, depending on the results of the ongoing investigation.

According to local newspaper El Frontera, Tijuana mayor Jorge Astiazarán Orcí has said that the environmental fines may go up to 730,000 pesos (about $41040.177 USD), however, "first we must know the causes of this incident".

"We first have to wait for the expert's report on the probable causes of the incident and depending on the results, we'll know if environmental fines will apply for not following civil protection protocols and for now following environmental laws, state and federal agencies will be analyzing environmental problems."

The fines applied will depend on the results of the investigation.
