On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Ángel” located at Av. Aranjuez corner with Cucapah. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a seafood taco priced at $2.35 dollars ($40 pesos) and a Gobernador taco priced at $4.41 dollars ($75 pesos).
Gobernador Taco
This taco has shrimp, marlin, cheese, pico de gallo, cabbage, pickled onion, cream, red salsa, and it is served on two corn tortillas. When he analyzed the ingredients, Chef Danny said that the outer tortilla had been buttered a little and had been lightly fried.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that he was able to taste the butter. He also added that he had never tasted a Gobernador taco like this one with marlin, shrimp pieces above, and cheese at the bottom. Both the pico de gallo and the cream added freshness. In addition, the tortillas and the cheese had a very subtle flavor, which is why this taco gets a rating of 7.3.
Price: $4.41 dollars ($75 pesos)
Seafood Taco
This taco has shrimp, fish, pico de gallo, cabbage, red salsa, cream, and it is served on two corn tortillas. Though Chef Danny was able to see the first two proteins, the workers at this establishment told him that he would be finding more seafood as he went along.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that the fish had a very soft texture where he was able to realize that it was cooked in its own broth. He compared the flavor to a seafood broth with fish, ray, and octopus. He added that he was able to taste the fish stew and that it was quite humid. The shrimp itself was cooked as the one used for cocktails. The tortillas did not hold and did not have any flavor as they were steamed instead of being heated with oil or butter. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.4.
Price: $2.35 dollars ($40 pesos)
