On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos El Rey” located at Blvd. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz 16851, Mexico Lindo, 22126. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco priced at $1.76 dollars ($30 pesos) and a taco called “El Chiludo” priced at $5.88 dollars ($100 pesos).
Asada Taco
This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), guacamole, onion, cilantro, huevona sauce, and it is served on a corn tortilla. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that the salsa was quite spicy and joked that taqueros just keep making sauces spicier and spicier. The avocado flesh was a little diluted, but it did not become aguamole.
The meat had a soft texture, but not because of how it was cooked, but because the “juice” of the salsa gave it humidity. The tortilla was completely lost in the taco due to its very small size and because it was very thin. This is why this taco gets a rating of 6.0.
Price: $1.76 dollars ($30 pesos)
El Chiludo Taco
This taco has arrachera meat, guacamole, asadero cheese, green salsa, California pepper, onion, cilantro, and it is served on a flour tortilla. The first thing to note about this taco was its great size. The tortilla was fried on the outside, but the juiciness of the salsa was beginning to make it soft.
The meat was sliced into thick cuts, and it was juicy with a very present coal flavor. The charred California pepper slices added a lot of flavor and the salsa was very spicy. Chef Danny claimed that this sauce was perfect for those who love spicy food. On this taco, the guacamole was not outstanding, but the tortilla and the cheese’s good flavor helped to “wrap” the rest of the ingredients. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.6.
Price: $5.88 dollars ($100 pesos)
