On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Barbacoa Blvd. 2000” located at Corredor Tijuana - Rosarito 2000 Km 21.5, Cuero de Venados, 22160. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a rib taco priced at $2.75 dollars ($55 pesos) and a surtida (meat mix) taco priced at $2.5 dollars ($50 pesos).
Surtida Taco
This taco has maciza (lean meat) and lamb rib, onion, cilantro, green salsa, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing to note about this taco is that the tortilla was handmade and had a good size and very soft texture.
When he tried it, Chef Danny stated that though the lamb meat flavor was very present, it was missing some seasoning. He also detected some jalapeño and cilantro in the green salsa and its freshness made it mix very well with the taco, though the lamb flavor wasn’t very subtle. In addition, the tortilla was one of the main ingredients our chef liked due to its softness and flavor. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.9.
Price: $2.25 dollars ($50 pesos)
Rib Taco
This taco has lamb rib, onion, coriander, red sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The rib was fried on one side as it was griddled. It is also served with the bone, which completely and easily detaches itself from the meat, meaning that the protein is soft.
When he took his first bite, Chef Danny confirmed that the salsa was quite spicy and that the meat had a very crunchy texture outside but it was completely soft inside. The lamb flavor was quite intense. Once again, the tortilla was one of the main star ingredients due to the strong maize presence without overshadowing all the other taco elements. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.3.
Price: $2.75 dollars ($55 pesos)
