Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana held a productive meeting with Mariza Marín, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Port Director, to reaffirm their shared commitment to working together for the benefit of both nations.
Key issues discussed included improving the efficiency of border crossings and ensuring the security of port of entry zones. By strengthening collaboration between these two leaders, Tijuana’s 25th City Hall continues to advance its binational agenda.
"We are enhancing our strategy to streamline border crossings by encouraging CBP to open additional inspection booths. We have already implemented a coordinated operation with the National Institute of Migration and the National Guard to build public trust, especially during the holiday season. These efforts aim to guarantee a secure border with a consistent presence of authorities," the mayor explained.
Mayor Burgueño Ruiz was joined by Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development, Pedro Alejandro Montejo Peterson, and Director of Economic Promotion, Óscar Higuera Betancourt. Representing CBP, Sidney Aki, Director of Field Operations (DFO), and Moisés Castillo, Deputy Director of Field Operations (DDFO), were also in attendance. Both are responsible for overseeing the San Diego-area ports of entry, including San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tecate, Calexico, Andrade, and San Diego International Airport.
For Tijuana’s 25th City Hall, strengthening binational relations to reach agreements that address shared interests and benefit the residents of both regions remains a top priority.
