On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos de Chile Relleno La Güera” located at C. Miguel Hidalgo 12325 Col. Libertad. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco priced at $1.75 dollars ($35 pesos) and a stuffed pepper taco with tripe priced at $3 dollars ($60 pesos).

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has a complete piece of carne asada (grilled beef), avocado flesh, griddled onion, cilantro, charred sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first two things Chef Danny noticed were the sizes of both the meat and the tortilla, which were as big as our host’s hand.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was impressed by the taco’s great flavor, texture, and thickness both from the tortilla and the salsa, which was a little bit spicy but had incredible touches of flavor from each ingredient and the sauce made out from the molcajete. The meat was also well seasoned and marinated. Danny said that the only thing it was missing was more avocado. This is why this taco gets a rating of 9.1.

Stuffed Pepper Taco with Tripe

This taco has a stuffed pepper with cheese, beef tripe, griddled onion, coriander, onion, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. Just like the previous taco, the first thing to note about this taco was its great size as well as the ingredients, which made the taco quite big.

When he took his first bite, our host claimed that he was impressed. The tortilla has the ideal thickness where the tortilla doesn’t break and withstands its weight, but it also doesn’t overwhelm thanks to the maize flavor. The avocado flesh increases the taste of everything and the tripe is fried well and it has great juiciness inside. The stuffed pepper tasted more like battered cheese but this did not bother Danny at all. This is why this taco gets a rating of 9.3.
