On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Tacos Casa Blanca” located at Blvd. Casa Blanca, Matamoros Norte. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco priced at $1.35 dollars ($27 pesos) and a suadero taco priced at $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos).
Asada Taco
This taco has carne asada (grilled beef), guacamole, onion, cilantro, huevona sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that it tasted a little bitter.
He claimed that the bitterness did not come from the meat because it had a good flavor and it was soft. What didn’t really convince our host was the tortilla that, despite being handmade, before he could take another bite, it had broken. The guacamole was lacking texture and flavor as it was so grounded that it was very similar to watery guacamole. Another thing to note was that the sauce tasted too much like tomato. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.3.
Price: $1.35 dollars ($27 pesos)
Suadero Taco
This taco has suadero, onion, cilantro, red sauce, and is served on a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing Chef Danny noted about this taco was the color of the salsa, which was a sign that it was going to have a lot of flavor. The taco was also served with a tostada on the side.
When he tried the taco, Chef Danny was very disappointed in the salsa. Though it was a little spicy, it was lacking in sourness, “push”, and flavor. The meat was also missing seasoning, and it was in the midway point between the perfect cooking and it being hard, so it lacked softness. The tortilla was thin, which is why it started to break a little bit. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.3.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
