The recent violent acts that occurred in Baja California and other areas of Mexico have been characterized as terrorist acts. This is according to members of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) at Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies.

They likewise condemned the “outrageous” statement by Tijuana mayor Montserrat Caballero, who said that organized crime were “collecting their debts”, which essentially admitted that crimes and extortions were being committed while also allowing organized crime to continue operating.

“PRI representatives condemn the inaction by authorities, especially the outrageous and unacceptable statement by Tijuana mayor Montserrat Caballero, who essentially stated that violence is due to people not “paying rent” and was asking criminals to only act against those who did not pay,” they stated.

In addition, PRI members at San Lázaro said that they will call on for the federal security cabinet to appear before them so that they can inform the Chamber of Deputies about the gravity of the situation.

They have stated that the security policy implemented by the President of Mexico and the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) party has been inadequate and incorrect, without any coordination, and unable to act promptly against violence acts by organized crime.

They regretted that these factors have put people’s lives at risk in several different communities of Mexico.

They’ve warned that the violent acts lived this month of August are unprecedented in Mexico’s modern history.

They called on governors and municipal presidents to carry out their duties and allocate enough resources to allow local police forces to be equipped, professionalized, and improved so that they can be fully operational.

They’ve rated as insufficient that the President of Mexico has limited himself to just say that he wishes that these violent acts never happen again.

They also demanded that the crime issue is dealt with in effective coordination between the Federal Government and state and municipal administrations, without militarizing public security institutions.

This is in regards to the President of Mexico’s attempt to integrate the National Guard (GN) into the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), through a constitutional reform or presidential decree or agreement.
