In this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Ensenada, our host, Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Taquería La México” located at Av. Ruíz 22840. On this occasion, he tried two classic tacos: a carne asada taco and an adobada taco, both priced at $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos).
Carne Asada Taco
This taco has carne asada (grilled meat), guacamole, onion, coriander, beans, huevona sauce, all served in a handmade corn tortilla. The first thing that Chef Danny noticed is that the taco looked “robust” as it had a lot of meat and ingredients, so many it had that all of them mixed together when he took his first bite.
He highlighted the tortilla’s great flavor as it was soft and humid. The guacamole was pure avocado flesh and in the meat he detected the light smoked taste as it was a thicker cut that allowed the meat, beans, and huevona sauce taste to come through. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.4.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
Adobada Taco
This taco’s presentation surprised Chef Danny. He first noted the fried pacakaged tortillas, as opposed to being handmade like with the previous taco, as well as the onion, coriander, guacamole, bird’s beak chile sauce, fried adobada meat, and, unusually, slices of pineapple.
Despite the packaged tortilla, it had a great taste when fried with the meat’s own grease. The meat’s flavor distinguished itself due to the adobo flavor as well as the grease and its humidity. The only thing that didn’t convince Chef Danny was the pineapple, since he would have preferred if it had been grilled or griddled so that it had a more caramelized taste. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.8.
Price: $1.5 dollars ($30 pesos)
