Mayor Ismael Burgueño claims that Tijuana is cradle of great athletes in Mexico

The municipal president of Tijuana has stood by the aid that his administration provides to motivate local athletes

The mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, stated that the municipality is known for being the "seedbed of great athletic glory" and a national reference; at the same time, he reaffirmed that his administration will work so that the city contributes to develop sports, artistic, and cultural talents.

At a meeting with Tijuana native athletes in the main courtyard of the Municipal Palace and before the National Director of Sports and Wellbeing Promotion, Miguel Torruco Garza, the mayor said: "We applaud the boost that the federal government will be providing for social sports and from the municipal government we are joining these diverse actions so that people can practice different disciplines in their schools and communities."

He underscored that the strategy and coordination between the different levels of government is key to fight insecurity as a responsibility that belongs to everyone. Social strengthening to boost sports, arts, and culture to guarantee results is also an important part of this strategy.

Burgueño Ruiz emphasized that the municipal government he leads has as a commitment to recover and create new recreational spaces so that citizens can practice and boost their skills. He also emphasized that no athlete will go to a competition without being supported by the government.

For his part, Miguel Torruco, stated that sports improve physical and emotional health and, above all, significantly contributes to the construction of social wellbeing.

"Through sports, community bonds are strengthened creating spaces where we can live together and collaborate in a way that benefits everyone in society. The second floor of the transformation focuses its efforts on strengthening social tissue. Sport is a tool that unites people together and prevents violence, guiding our youth towards a future of great opportunities," the federal official said.

He shared that under the leadership of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, sports development will be a priority and each sport space that is activated will represent an opportunity to detect the talent of Mexican people.

In his speech, the Secretary of Wellbeing, Erick Morales Elvira, claimed that Mayor Ismael Burgueño has placed special emphasis on sports, which is why he has instructed the Secretariat and the Municipal Institute of Sports (IMDET) to work strongly, particularly, in the Eastern Zone where there's greater social abandonment.

Meanwhile the head of the IMDET office, Carlos King Ristori, stated that the group of athletes that gathered at this meeting, where awards were given, represent the more than 243 Tijuana natives that participated in the National Championships of the National Commission of Sports and the National Paralympics.
