The mayor of Tijuana promotes sports programs that will strengthen physical activity culture to improve children and young people’s health. His goal is for new generations to see sports as a priority activity and prevent bad habits.

The president of the Commission of Youth and Sports, Jesús Javier Merino Cuevas, made a commitment this week to promote activities that encourage people to work and play together as well as create sports and recreational spaces in the city.

Betting on art and culture

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana has also stressed the importance of children and young people having access to recreational spaces away from mobile devices. A plan to invest in parks, green areas, and murals to foster talent and Tijuana's cultural identity has been established with this goal in mind.

The priority of the 25th City Hall is to promote public policies that strengthen already existing cultural programs and create new artistic and cultural projects.

Security: A priority for Mayor Ismael Burgueño

One of Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz's missions is to develop intelligence strategies to improve security in Tijuana. He also aims to work together with local and state authorities to achieve good results.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana once underscored that security in the city is not only the municipal administration's responsibility, but a joint effort that involves all three levels of government and society.

This is the reason why he appointed Lieutenant Colonel Julián Leyzaola (Security Strategy Advisor) and Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales (Secretary of Municipal Security and Citizen Protection) to his Strategic Security and Citizen Protection Cabinet. Both will work in key areas to get rid of crime in the region.

One of the first actions implemented was a measure to fight corruption at border crossings. This was a response to one of people's main concerns: getting rid of the practice by some traffic officers of letting people crossing the Tijuana-San Diego border cut in line.

Addressing Tijuana's main concerns

Ismael Burgueño’s, Mayor of the City of Tijuana, focus is to create synergy with the Tijuana native community during his term by being close to the people and the most vulnerable groups. As an example of this approach, the municipal president recently inaugurated a garbage collection route at Colonia El Laurel 1 where public lighting was also installed.
