MEXICO.- Netflix will launch its first Spanishlanguage series geared toward the Hispanic market, with Mexican cast, locations and producer, Gaz Alazraki who directed the hit film 'Nosotros Los Nobles' ("We are the Nobles" in the US), which shattered box-office records in Mexico and was also hugely successful in the US.
The cast is almost the same as the film, including Luis Gerardo Méndez, who played the part of "Javi". The plot covers two very important current social phenomenons in Mexico: the division of social classes (which is the common theme of the film), and soccer.
A title has not yet been revealed, nor has the exact date of the premiere. What has been guaranteed is that work is now underway to launch the series by 2015. A short synopsis of the 13episode series has been revealed. It is about a soccer club, which is run by heirs after the owner's death.
Netflix has had widespread success with its original series' like 'House of Cards', 'Orange is the new black', and 'Lilyhammer', and others. This is Netflix's debut amongst a demographic that is becoming increasingly more important.
In the past a series had been made that centered around soccer, called "El Diez", which starred Alfonso Herrera as a soccer player and focused on the day-to-day cost of fame. The show was broadcast by both ESPN and Televisa.
