Blue Line trolley in San Diego to be remodeled

The stations that will benefit from this will span from Barrio Logan to San Ysidro

The 45,000 San Diegans who use the Blue Line trolley every day will be benefited by the remodeling work being done on the Stations which are part of this section, according to a press release provided by SANDAG.

With an investment of over $300 million dollars, the idea is to renovate the resources which the city already counts on. Among the activities that started last week, and will extend until 2014, in order to avoid affecting citizens, temporary alternate stations will be installed, there will be demolitions, reconstructions, and will add additional electronic signals.

The 12 stations that make the Blue Line, from Barrio Logan all the way to San Ysidro will be remodeled, the first being Barrio Logan, Harborside and Pacific Fleet, and service will remain uninterrupted.

SANDAG estimates that the remodeling of each station will take between 5 to 8 months. With the changes being made, passengers will have more seating in the stations, shorter travel times, and the arrival of special trams known as "Low-floor-Trolleys" which will be closer to the ground

without relying on steps or other mechanisms, this will allow senior citizens, people with strollers or bikes as well as those with handicaps to board the trolley much easier. These are already part of the Green and Orange Line.

Over 8,000 jobs will be generated with these remodeling efforts in San Diego.

"In the San Diego region, we are not just dedicating resources to new and expanded transit services. We also are making strategic investments to upgrade our existing transit network," SANDAG Chair and Santee Councilmember Jack Dale said. "The modernization of the Blue Line will make our system more efficient and accessible, enhancing the ridership experience for millions of passengers for years to come."
