This operation's goal is to attack the security issues that this region currently faces

Authorities of the three levels of government are addressing the security issue affecting Valle de Mexicali, establishing a coordination that allows for the implementation of convincing actions to guarantee the peace and wellbeing of this region's residents.

The head of the Secretariat of the Interior of Baja California, Alfredo Álvarez Cárdenas, announced the launch of a comprehensive intervention program based on a close coordination between the Government of Baja California, the Municipal Administration of Mexicali, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the State's Attorney General Office (FGE). This plan contemplates strategic operations, the strengthening police presence, and preventive actions to attack the root of the security issues currently affecting Valle de Mexicali.

"This intervention places as the focus of security and wellbeing the people of Valle de Mexicali, as a result of agreements made in national security councils and the priorities set by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda," Secretary Álvarez said.

The mayor of Mexicali, Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez, stressed that this collaboration between federal and state governments is focused on intervening in strategic areas of Valle de Mexicali, identified as a priority to reduce crime rates.

"We are decided to recover these spaces for our communities so that families can live in peace and security. Constant surveillance will be maintained and there will be continuous assessment of the results," the mayor said.

The Secretary of Citizen Security of Baja California, General Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán said that this is a result of the coordinated work of investigation and intelligence in which the three levels of government participated, based on the agreements made at security councils.

"Thanks to these meetings, a specific intervention was requested to supervise and evaluate the performance of authorities that operate in this area," he explained.

For his part, the head of FGE, Ma. Elena Andrade Ramírez, claimed that an honest and committed police force will be strengthened to help the community, through the implementation of strict evaluations from the Center of Control and Trust (C3).

"Those agents that do not fulfill ethical principals and the duty of a police officer will face the appropriate consequences," she added saying that the integrity and transparency of these forces will be a priority.
