Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana led a tour through some of the city's Historic Downtown's most emblematic sites, accompanied by authorities from the three levels of government. The tour began at the renewed Threshold on Avenida Revolución.
Aiming to strengthen this area as a premier tourist destination with a focus on culture, gastronomy, and cross-border identity, the mayor said:
We are honored to welcome Secretary of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora. It is inspiring that she has witnessed the progress of the Historic Downtown restoration. I commend the private sector and civil society for joining this shared responsibility.
Ismael Burgueño, Mayor of the City of Tijuana, together with Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico's Secretary of Tourism; Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, Baja California's Secretary of Tourism; Deputy Secretary of Tourism, José de Jesús Quiñónez; Pedro Alejandro Montejo Peterson, Secretary of Municipal Economic Development; José Luis Portillo Reyes, Municipal Delegate of the Downtown Zone, and businessman Antonio Gamboa Bustamante, began their tour by taking a picture at the Threshold in Avenida Revolución. Then, they traveled to El Museo del Collecionista, moved on to Museo de la Lucha Libre and Museo del Taco, and finalized their tour by meeting with local hotel owners.
The Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, said: "Tijuana's Historic Downtown, a landmark of our history and culture, is being revitalized through the joint efforts of the three levels of government. We want to position it as an essential attraction for visitors and the local community, making tourism a tool for social reconciliation."
The 25th City Hall has promoted a restoration program of Tijuana's Historic Downtown, which includes transforming a section of Avenida Revolución into a pedestrian walkway. This has transformed it into a recreational, safe, and family-friendly space for citizens and tourists that highlights historic, gastronomic, and cultural attractions and strengthens commerce in the area.
Lastly, the Mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño, reiterated that his administration is committed to bringing splendor back to Avenida Revolución and consolidating it as one of the city's prominent tourist landmarks.
