Tijuana has changed a lot throughout the years, adapting to the trends and needs of the modern age. However, in less busy streets one can find places that seem to have been frozen in time, taking us on a journey back to the past.
After 61 years in Downtown, “Centro Musical de Tijuana” will close its doors
On their official Facebook page, Centro Musical de Tijuana said goodbye in an emotional message to all of their clients: the hundreds of Tijuana natives and tourists that visited them for over 60 years.
This store, located in 2nd Street in Downtown Tijuana, between Niños Héroes and Constitución, took visitors to another era. Its iconic mosaic floors, mirror walls, and dozens of albums hanging from the ceiling created a unique environment. There was also a majestic mechanical horse, which was used by many children. This business, led by the family of Mr. Manuel Magdaleno, shared the following message:
With many, many memories and gratitude, it is time to say goodbye to Centro Musical de Tijuana, a record store that is part of this city's history. Centro Musical more than a business became a meeting point for the musical scene of the 70s, where unforgettable friendships, endless partying, and music all took place here. Everything has a cycle and ours has reached its end, but memories are endless and they will always be in the most beautiful place of my heart. Warm regards, Manuel Magdaleno.
Besides selling musical material and tickets for local concerts, this business also taught classes to artists and people on how to record songs, copyright, and more.
Hundreds of citizens expressed their nostalgia and sadness due to the closure of this famous store which, sadly, will be saying farewell.
