Ismael Burgueño, Mayor of Tijuana, alongside federal authorities led by Citlalli Hernández Mora, head of Mexico’s Secretariat of Women, officially launched the Atención a las Causas (Addressing the Causes) National Security Strategy. This initiative focuses on responding to the concerns and needs of citizens living in high-risk areas, designated as Zona Paz (Peace Zones), by promoting pacification, addressing root causes of violence, and offering sustainable programs, services, and actions.
During the launch event at the Community Center in Colonia Valle Verde, Mayor Burgueño emphasized that this coordinated effort aims to strengthen communities, particularly by creating opportunities for young people.
"We must reach young people and help them see that there’s a way forward," he said. "Through the federal public policies implemented by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and collaborative efforts between federal, state, and municipal levels, we can achieve this in an organized and unified way."
For her part, Mexican Government Representative, Citlalli Hernández, recognized the launch of this strategy as a big day for Tijuana, which is also in operation in Tabasco and will soon extend to other Mexican cities.
After speaking about the importance of fighting the root causes of crime and providing people with opportunities, she then explained that, starting on Tuesday, more than 400 officials from several different agencies will be joining brigades to visit every home in a given area to learn all about their problems and resolve them.
Once the ceremony ended, Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana joined one of these brigades and visited every home in the streets surrounding the Community Center.
The Delegate of Bienestar Programs of Baja California, Jesús Ruiz Uribe; the Deputy Secretary of Well-Being of Mexico, Jesús Valencia, and the Deputy Secretary of Well-Being of Baja California, Jorge Salazar, were all present at this ceremony.
As part of this strategy, a Peace Campaign event was held, featuring several assistance centers designed to support the community. Services provided at these centers included influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations, rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats, nutritional guidance offered by the IMSS, early breast cancer detection, and more.
