"Corazones Viajeros" Social Tourism Program Benefits Over 5,000 Baja Californians

This program was nominated by the International Social Tourism Organisation in the "Initiatives from Destinations" category

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda highlighted the progress achieved by the Secretariat of Tourism's "Corazones Viajeros" program, which seeks to make tourism accessible to all Baja Californians.

Emphasizing the program's focus on prioritizing vulnerable populations, the governor stated, "Corazones Viajeros" has significantly benefited over 5,000 Baja Californians from disadvantaged communities.

"There are families in Tijuana's Eastern Zone who have never been to the beach, and this program allows them to experience it. We aim for this state government initiative to provide access to recreational and tourist destinations for people living in Baja California’s most remote areas," the governor said.

Baja California's Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, has indicated that the “Corazones Viajeros” social tourism initiative aims to make the benefits of tourism readily accessible for all people living in the state.

So far this year, he said, more than 5,000 people have enjoyed the thirteen tours available and visited iconic locations such as Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), Valle de los Gigantes, San Quintin's Volcanic Fields, La Chinesca in Mexicali’s Historic Downtown, among others.

"We at the Secretariat of Tourism have worked diligently to transform tourism into a tool for social reconciliation through this program. Our goal is to enable the community to experience Baja California's rich heritage by offering free, state-subsidized trips," the secretary stated.

It should be noted that Corazones Viajeros 2024 was nominated by the International Social Tourism Organisation in the "Initiatives from Destinations" category, competing against Spain and Portugal.

Aguíñiga Rodríguez also mentioned that twenty boosted projects belonging to the "Apoyos a la Inclusión Productiva y Sustentable" program have benefited Baja California’s indigenous communities.

Lastly, both Corazones Viajeros and Apoyos a la Inclusión Productiva y Sustenable programs are being refined to reach a higher number of people to promote the well-being of all Baja Californians.
