Nearly 100 procedures can now be completed from any phone or computer, part of an ongoing effort to make the Baja California government more efficient, transparent, and user-friendly, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda announced during her Wednesday Morning Press Conference.
The governor emphasized that the Digital Agency of Baja California, established under her administration, has simplified procedures and services by providing an official state government platform. This initiative saves residents time, money, and effort, enhances transparency, and combats corruption.
"So far, I can share that we have received 500,000 visits to our State Registry of Procedures and Services (RETyS) website. Additionally, 200,000 assistance sessions have been provided through the 24/7/365 service of the Modelo Único de Atención Ciudadana (MUAC). Our Ventanilla Única platform has become an essential online resource for procedures, already logging over 300,000 visits," the governor stated.
Baja California’s push to drastically reduce waiting times, lengthy queues, and the need to visit government offices is inspired by the digital government model championed by President Claudia Sheinbaum. As a pioneer of digital governance during her tenure as head of Mexico City's government, Sheinbaum is now advancing this strategy nationwide, Governor Marina del Pilar noted.
The governor highlighted some of the progress made so far: 57,419 digital traffic cards and more than 217,000 digital licenses have been issued, a significant increase compared to the 8,000 issued in 2023. In addition, citizens can now get their criminal record and birth certificates and pay for their water bills online.
Additionally, Marina del Pilar pointed out that digitalization has positively impacted tax collection. For example, Sport Fishing Permits generated an increase of 9 million pesos.
Another key component is the LLAVE Baja California platform, which fosters inclusivity as part of a national strategy. This platform allows users to access various procedures and services with a single password. A complementary tool, the Citizen File, enables individuals to store their data and documents in one centralized location.
Governor Marina del Pilar reaffirmed Baja California's commitment to becoming a digital, transparent, and equitable government that prioritizes citizens' needs above all else.
The director of the Digital Agency of Baja California, Gabriel Alberto Palombo, revealed that 93 online procedures have been enabled, plus 100 more can be started online, but require some sort of on-site pickup or signature as a rule.
Collaboration with the seven municipalities federal Mexican authorities, CBP, and the California and Arizona Highway Patrols Patrols has ensured the validity and recognition of Digital Licenses and Traffic Cards.
The governor also highlighted Framework Bajastack, a software tool developed with the federal government. This system has supported the creation of several government agency platforms, saving 13.1 million pesos so far. By 2025, it is expected that 25 systems will be developed, with projected savings exceeding 30 million pesos.
