Day of the Dead is one of Mexico's most important traditions and our beloved Baja California experiences this celebration to the fullest with a great assortment of artistic and cultural activities. Here are some of the region's most outstanding and interesting Day of the Dead events. Don't miss the chance to experience them firsthand!

1. Festival de Día de Muertos

Centro Cultural Tijuana is ready to celebrate this holiday with 20 activities set to take place from October 30 to November 3. Some of these activities are: musical show "Calacas", a tribute to José Guadalupe Posada; "Pasarela de Catrinas" (Catrina Catwalk), presented by "Design and Manufacturing of Clothes and Fashion" students from Universidad UNID; and other presentations such as the Yoltetik Folkloric Dance and the Cardones Folkloric Ballet. It should be noted that people will be able to witness the world record of biggest pan de muerto made with more than 40,000 pieces and by gastronomy students from Universidad Vizcaya de las Américas.

2. Caravana y Festival de Día de Muertos 2024

The 2nd edition of the classic Caravana y Festival de Día de Muertos will take place on November 1 in Downtown Tijuana. This event will begin at 5 PM from Benito Juárez market, travel through the surroundings, and finalize at Av. Ocampo, where an outdoors celebration will take place. Stands full of handicrafts, food, music, and activities will all be available in this amazing celebration of Mexican culture.

3. Velada Cultural del Día de Muertos

Inspired by the symbolism of Mictlán, La Velada Cultural gathers families in an event where folklore and oenology come together in Baja California to celebrate Day of the Dead. This event includes an "Altar Afternoon", a traditional altar competition, and "Catrina Night" where you'll be able to taste wines and Mexican gastronomy, enhancing the connection between the region's cultural roots and traditions.

• Location: Bodegas de Santo Tomás, Downtown Ensenada

• Date: Saturday, November 2

• Time: 6:00pm

4. Noche de Catrinas

Rosarito Beach Hotel will organize a beautiful evening honoring this beloved tradition on its "Noche de Catrinas". Guests will enjoy live music, dance, delicious food, and the special Catrina presentation! There will also be a Catrina competition with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places!

5. El Pan de la Catrina

At Parque Miguel Hidalgo, Tecate, cempasúchil flowers, candles, papel picado, and art to remember the dead will transform the entire location into a full blown celebration. Food, bread, and fun Day of the Dead activities will be taking place here. Plus, don't miss the concert by GHUKASYAN String Orchestra, the Catrina Catwalk, and the exciting Dead Souls 10K Race!

6. “Festival Día de Muertos” in Tecate

Helping us to relive our childhood nostalgia, "Fundación La Puerta" has organized the 24th edition of Day of the Dead Festival to keep this tradition alive in the border region. This festival began on October 25 with the "Catrina Catwalk Competition" and will continue until November 2 and 3 at Parque del Profesor with 15 folkloric activities.

In the morning of Sunday, November 3, there will be an Axolotl 5K and 2K Race. In the afternoon, you'll be able to enjoy food and the rest of the activities with prizes for altar, alebrije, and literary calaveritas competitions.

7. “4to. Festival de Día de Muertos” in Mexicali

The capital of Baja California will be celebrating this traditional festivity as well. A Catrina Parade organized by IMACUM will be taking place at 6 PM from Parque Vicente Guerrero to Plaza de Toros Calafia. A great cultural outdoors celebration with music, art, food, and surprises for the whole family are also set to take place.
