Governor Marina del Pilar will support single mothers with "Proyecto Vivienda Violeta" in Baja California

The project is specifically designed for women who are heads of their families and in a vulnerable condition

In Mexico, more than 4 million homes have absent fathers, according to numbers by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). This means that a great number of families depend on jobs by independent mothers, who face economic difficulties and a labor market that is not designed for maternity.

That's why having access to a dignified home has become a challenge for them, especially in Baja California, a border region where high costs have made buying land or houses complicated.

During her morning press conference which took place on Friday, October 11, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, underscored that one of the principles of Fourth Transformation governments is to protect the most vulnerable people, emphasizing the need to transform housing into a right and not a privilege.

With this vision, "Proyecto Vivienda Violeta" was presented and it is specifically designed for women who are heads of their families and in a vulnerable condition. This program is looking to make purchasing a home easier with a focus on human rights that considers the difficulties faced by single mothers.

The pilot plan includes 90 homes for women who don't own property and who have economic dependents. The project has already begun in Mexicali and it is expected that it expands to other municipalities in Baja California.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territory Redesign (SIDURT), Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, explained that the program's beneficiaries will receive restored and recovered homes with all utilities.

The most significant characteristic is that no down payment is required and that no interests will be generated. The monthly payment will be approximately 3,900 pesos, depending on the house's size.

"These homes are financed by credits granted by the Institute of Real Estate and Housing Development of Baja California (INDIVI), without a down payment, with insurance, and with monthly payments starting at 3,900 pesos, fixed payments, and with no interests," Espinoza said. In addition, he underscored that there will be no credit score review, which gets rid of one of the most common barriers to have access to housing.

This project represents an aid for independent mothers, which offers a solution to improve the quality of life of themselves and their families.
