The mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, announced the beginning of the Restoration Program of the City's Historic Downtown, which includes the transformation of Avenida Revolución into a pedestrian and artistic walkway that spans from Calle Cuarta to Calle Séptima.
At this initiative's inauguration, the municipal president underscored the importance of creating a new creative and cultural space that keeps the promise of boosting the city's development.
"We want all Tijuana natives to have a space where they can walk, have fun together, and enjoy recreational activities," Burgueño Ruiz said during the first edition of his morning press conference which took place this Thursday.
The scheduled activities for this new walkway will include street theater projects, musical presentations, plastic art presentations, poetry readings, and other artistic expressions.
The mayor said that a carrousel has been installed and that there will be free cultural programs from Monday through Sunday from 5 PM to 9 PM, which will be available for tourists and local residents until December 20.
"Avenida Revolución is a cultural heritage of this city and the creation of this space, with pedestrian use, has been something that many people in Tijuana have wished for. It also increases tourism, strengthens local art, and boosts the economy," the mayor said.
The transformation of Avenida Revolución represents only the first stage of the restoration of the historic downtown project with plans to expand this initiative to other streets in the area in the future.
