Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT) is celebrating its 42nd anniversary, as it further consolidates itself as the biggest cultural and artistic landmark in northwestern Mexico.
Since its inauguration on October 20, 1982, this venue has been a meeting point for the artistic and tourism community as well as residents from both Californias; giving a space to thousands of musical, theatrical, plastic, and dance artistic expressions by national and international artists.
To commemorate this important date, CECUT is organizing an unmissable dance that will take place on Saturday, October 19 which will begin at 5 PM in the terrace. Admission is free and it is a family friendly event.
"We want this to be a celebration where attendants dance and have fun; groups performing have a common theme which is tropical music with a unique style that combines genres such as rock, reggae, and vallenato, and we hope that everyone enjoys it," Roberto Nogami Monteverde, Deputy Director of Communication, Memory, and Art Documentation of CECUT, said.
A musical show full of flavor and joy!
This event will begin with a performance by DJ Chucuchu, who has more than 25 years of experience in the national and international scene and has participated in festivals in Mexico, the United States, France, and Italy with a very singular style that combines cumbia, funk, and rock.
For their part, La Diabla is a group from Tijuana with a career spanning 20 years, known for their powerful stage presence that offers a hypnotic mix of Colombian cumbia, reggae, and vallenato.
Lastly to close off with a grand finale, Takón Machine, a group from Ensenada with a 15-year career in the musical scene and with its "coastal cumbia" will be performing both original songs and cumbia versions of rock classics.
To complement this experience, attendants will be able to enjoy drinks and an assortment of dishes such as pizzas, fries, Mexican snacks, and more.
We invite you to not miss this great celebration next Saturday, October 19 starting at 5 PM.
CECUT: 42 years of a cultural and artistic legacy
Throughout its 42 years of existence, CECUT has been the main venue of several different artistic disciplines from scenic arts to music, literature, and cinema. Its role in the cultural development of Tijuana and Mexico's northern border is undeniable, as it has contributed to give the region an identity.
"As the artistic and cultural world changes, a new trend begins and CECUT begins to change. That's why during this time we have adapted by including new spaces, such as the El Cubo galleries, Cineteca Tijuana, and a recently inaugurated traditional art store, as well as other spaces. There are new programs too and, thanks to all of this we are able to give all Tijuana natives and the population at large a very attractive offer," Roberto Nogami explained.
Since its beginnings, CECUT made it its mission to be a museum-like space that will bring the best of the world to Tijuana. Throughout the years, it has managed to keep this promise as it has become the venue of renowned artistic exhibitions, promoting culture in innovative ways.
Designed by Manuel Rosen Morrison, CECUT is a project that has become an architectural icon; its structure, which includes the famous concrete sphere where the IMAX Dome is located, has captured people's imagination, becoming the city's most representative image.
One of this institution’s most significant achievements has been its ability to attract several different audiences. Since its creation, it has been an inclusive space designed to promote the participation of everyone in society including the education community, indigenous people, and people with disabilities.
Nowadays, CECUT organizes between 10,000 and 12,000 activities every year; many of these activities take place online or in several Baja Californian communities such as shelters, youth integration centers, nursing homes, and prisons.
Besides events and exhibits, CECUT has also consolidated itself as a promoter of education programs designed to involve the community and offer learning and reflection opportunities through several different platforms.
