Mayor Ismael Burgueño will strengthen security in Tijuana with Julián Leyzaola as advisor on the matter

The mayor of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, has confirmed that Lieutenant Colonel Julián Leyzaola Pérez will be joining the 25th City Hall as security advisor.

During a press conference that took place in the morning of Monday, October 7, the municipal president stated that he was very happy with this decision, pointing out that "we have a strengthened team regarding security matters" and highlighting the excellent military management during the retirement of the former head of the Municipal Police of Tijuana.

Julián Leyzaola will be part of the 25th City Hall of Tijuana and his role will be to advise on security issues and strategy; which is why he will be present at work meetings and councils.

The announcement was made just before the shortlist of three candidates was selected for the new head of the Secretariat of Security and Municipal Citizen Protection which includes Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales (the mayor's proposal), José Alonso Sepúlveda, and Carlos Arturo Huacuja Betancourt.

The mayor stressed that choosing Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales is part of a strategy in collaboration with the federal government and responds to an analysis of Tijuana's security needs and the candidate's experience in intelligence and crime prevention matters.

The goal of this approach is to improve coordination with federal authorities and optimize security strategies.

In addition, he explained that Leyzaola's participation in the team is seen as a key element to strengthen the coordination of security policies and contribute to drops of crime rates in Tijuana.

"By mutual agreement, lieutenant colonel Leyzaola will assume this position (...) he's going to be by my side advising me on local matters; we have never spoken about pushing him aside, we are looking for a way to make of security a priority in Tijuana," Burgueño Ruiz claimed.

According to a recent analysis carried out by the federation, alongside dialogue had at recent meetings in Mexico City, the mayor of Tijuana claims that Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales' skills combined with Lieutenant Colonel Julián Leyzaola's experience will make the best team in this city's history.

With this restructuring, the 25th City Hall of Tijuana reaffirms its commitment to people's security and bets on coordinating and working with the Federal Government.
