Around 45,000 port workers in several areas of the United States who are members of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) went on strike last October 1st at eastern and Gulf of Mexico ports, cutting off the flow of many imports and exports in the United States.

Panic buying in San Diego due to US port strike

By stopping the flow of goods at several different loading ports from Maine to Texas, the flow of imports and exports of products such as furniture, clothes, home items, and even car pieces or pieces to keep factories in the US running will be stopped.

Though these strikes haven't had any effects in California ports so far, citizens are well aware about what's going and have started panic buying at huge stores such as Costco. In fact, today, there are several empty shelves where the toilet paper is usually located.

Both workers and consumers have made it clear that this product, as well as many others that belong to Costco are made in the US, which is why its supply will not be affected by the strike; however, panic has been greater, which is why people are buying these items.

San Diego stores, specifically, have had these sudden purchases of supplies and long lines to pay.
