Claudia Sheinbaum sworn in as first female President of Mexico

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's six-year term as the President of Mexico has officially begun

On October 1, at the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro in Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was sworn in as the President of Mexico before political party representatives and guests from several different countries.

This is a ceremony where media outlets and thousands of Mexicans came together to witness the historic moment in which Mexico sworn in a female president for the first time. She also became the first female president in all of North America, by winning in the June 2nd election with the participation of 35 million voters.

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo took the oath by stating the following:

Honorable Congress and people of Mexico. I affirm to follow and uphold the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States and the laws that emanate from it, and to perform loyally and patriotically the office of President of the Republic which the people have conferred upon me, in all actions looking after the good and prosperity of the Union; and if I were not to do so, may the Nation demand it of me.

After taking the oath, Ifigenia Martínez Hernández, president of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, removed the presidential band from Andrés Manuel López Obrador and put it on Claudia Sheinbaum, who was officially sworn in as the President of Mexico.
