Tijuana's public debt settlement: Hermosillo is now Mexico's most indebted municipality

Tijuana is out of the list of most indebted municipalities in Mexico

Thanks to the settlement of the public debt in Tijuana carried out by mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, it has been reduced by 16.1%.

National newspaper El Economista explained thoroughly in an article that after the settlement of the public debt in Tijuana, this municipality is now out of the list of the 15 most indebted municipalities in the country. This is why Hermosillo is now the municipality with the most debt in Mexico, with its debt hitting 1,640 billion pesos.

According to data from the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit, the municipal public debt in Mexico is 30,525 billion pesos at the close of the 2nd quarter of 2024; this represents a yearly drop of 16.1%.

This article claimed that this drop was due to Tijuana's public debt settlement, which amounted to 2,286 billion pesos and was carried out by the 24th City Hall of Tijuana led by mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez.

It should be noted that this historic achievement was possible due to a responsible and efficient management of municipal finances by the 24th City Hall, allowing for the settlement of four lines of credits, inherited from past administrations, with three financial institutions in early 2024.

Thanks to this action, prestigious agencies such as Fitch Ratings and Standard & Poor's increased Tijuana's municipal credit rating while recognizing the high efficiency of their public spending.

The 24th City Hall of Tijuana, led by Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, will leave behind healthy finances with no public debt and liquidity to guarantee the proper functioning and operation of the municipal government.
