Construction of Tijuana Pier will resume soon, claims Mayor Montserrat Caballero

Tijuana's new pier is currently 20% done, the mayor said

The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, supervised the progress of the construction of the new Playas de Tijuana Pier, which she claimed will resume very soon, benefiting the people of Tijuana and tourists of this border city.

"Right now, the project has stopped because the state government made some remarks about it, but don't worry, people of Tijuana, we are dealing with this so that we can continue this project this week," the head of the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana said during a live broadcast at this location.

Caballero Ramírez stated that the project is currently 20% done, however, the Municipal Administration already invested 200 million pesos, which means the upcoming administration will be able to continue without spending another peso.

"Even though we only have one week left in this government, this project has been paid. What does that mean? If you live in Playas and are worried about this project being left unfinished, this won't happen, as there is budgetary availability, there are no issues, and the upcoming government will give this project continuity, paid for by this government," the mayor said.

The director of the Municipal Agency of Projects and Urban Infrastructure (DOIUM), Marco Antonio Campoy Arce, stated that the remarks issued by the State Coordination of Civil Protection, such as the strengthening of protective measures, were addressed.

"It is an area that people visit a lot, which is why we are asking for people to support us by respecting signage as we have detected that the protective mesh has been removed. We are strengthening this and making our own work regarding this project's emergency plan," the Secretary of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development, Juan Enrique Bautista Corona, said.

The official said that this is a 2-km project lengthwise whose goal is to enhance the area that is so important to the community of Tijuana and tourism in our municipality.

That's why, he added, they are working in the pier's structure but also solving old problems in the area such as water dripping. Though these problems are not part of the municipality's jurisdiction, they will be addressed in this comprehensive project.

Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez reiterated to the community in the last days of her administration that she will continue working and supervising the projects that are of great significance for the people of Tijuana, such as the Pier in Playas de Tijuana.
