The 24th Tijuana City Council, through the Civil Registry Office, invites citizens interested in obtaining dual nationality to participate in the "Soy Mexico” campaign, which will remain active throughout September. This initiative aims to facilitate the application process for minors and students born in the United States who are children of Mexican parents.

Angélica Félix Domínguez, Civil Registry Officer 01, explained that following instructions from Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, they have relaunched this campaign in coordination with the State Government. Just weeks after its launch, the response from the public has been very positive.

Therefore, she urged interested individuals to take advantage of this campaign, which is both safe and free, as applicants are exempt from paying for the state registration non-existence certificate and are not required to present a translated and apostilled birth certificate from the United States.

The requirements to apply for this document include a birth certificate with a QR code, a certified CURP, and original and copied official identification from the Mexican parents. Additionally, minors must present their original and copied U.S. birth certificate.

This campaign will also benefit adult students who can demonstrate that they are currently enrolled, with a certificate or transcript issued by their educational institution.

Félix Domínguez indicated that interested individuals can visit any of the 11 Civil Registry Offices, either at City Hall or the delegations, to start their application and submit the aforementioned documents.

It’s important to note that individuals whose birth certificates were issued in Connecticut, Guam, Idaho, Kentucky, Northern Mariana Islands, Maryland, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, American Samoa, and Texas will not be able to participate, as certificate validation is not permitted in those states.

The Civil Registry Officer 01 explained that among the benefits of obtaining dual nationality, minors will gain legal certainty of their identity and will have access to educational, health, and other benefits they are entitled to as Mexicans.

The 24th Tijuana City Council reaffirms its commitment to border families through these types of campaigns and actions aimed at facilitating procedures and services for the population, as well as benefiting family economies.
