Will there be toll booths at the Elevated Viaduct in Tijuana?

This federal project will be partially inaugurated in early 2025

The Elevated Viaduct is one of the most important projects carried out by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) under the management of the federal government that will connect the airport with Playas de Tijuana.

It is an infrastructure project that promises to improve mobility, reduce traffic by 55% from one point to the other, and it is sustainable project that will decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

Another benefit is that it will improve the connection between the Tijuana International Airport, the San Ysidro/Puerta México port of entry, and Playas, with significant time saved in traveling of up to 55.26%, which means 12 minutes of time saved on a light vehicle.

Will there be toll booths at the Elevated Viaduct in Tijuana?

The construction of this Elevated Viaduct is not a license, but a project with a federal budget, which is why it there won't be any toll booths, said the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Traveling on this road won't require to pay toll booths allowing all citizens to benefit of this mobility improvement.

"The elevated viaduct will be completely free, several previous governors wanted this to be a toll road, but the president said, ‘SEDENA is going to build this’, this is so that the entire population of Baja California can use it," Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda said.

Elevated Viaduct will open partially in April 2025

The head of the Secretary of Economy and Innovation of Baja California, Kurt Honold Morales, said that the elevated viaduct in Tijuana will probably open in April 2025.

This is due to the fact that it is expected that the longest piece of road that has been built for this federal project will be open for the celebration of Tianguis Turístico 2025, whose venue will be the state of Baja California.
