Mayor of Tijuana Montserrat Caballero supports more than 190 families with "No Más Niños en la Calle" program

In just 33 days since the program launched, this project has shown that it is more than a simple strategy

More than 190 families have been benefited thanks to the "No Más Niños en la Calle" program promoted by mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez. In just 33 days since its launch, this project has shown to be more than a simple strategy: it is a comprehensive effort to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of children and families.

The Secretary of Wellbeing, Gerardo López Montes, explained that this public policy, created by the mayor, reduced the number of citizens and families that were working in the streets.

"We approached them respectfully, without judging them, with the noble intention of contributing to their wellbeing to remove them from the danger of the streets, especially with children," he said.

The head of the Secretariat of Wellbeing said that their work together has managed to achieve success with one case of a family from Guanajuato who dressed as clowns every day in order to get money to eat.

The official highlighted that this family that arrived in Tijuana in search of better opportunities for their children, only needed a program like the one promoted by the mayor and they, due to this support, are now working without risking their lives in the streets.

As such, he recalled the credits provided by the Secretariat of Economic Development of Tijuana (SEDETI) to strengthen entrepreneurship, with credits for citizens, in order to help their families.

López Montes pointed out that the Secretariat he leads will continue to offer assistance to families in the streets with economic aid, activities, and recreational activities through the Vacation Plan of the Municipal Institute of Sports (IMDET) or the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture (IMAC), legal and psychological guidance, and helping them to return to their place of origin, depending on the case.
