The ferry line that will unite Ensenada and San Diego has caught the attention of people and Azteca Ferries has promised to make of their trips an unforgettable experience. However, this is not the only ferry service company in Baja California because Baja Ferries has also been in charge of leading the way in ferry transportation to provide a service different from the rest.

This Mexican shipping company that sails through the Sea of Cortes was founded in 2003 by Mariano Ruano Boza to transport passengers between Sinaloa and Baja California Sur and has its headquarters located in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

Some of their most important routes are:

Mazatlán-La Paz

Their adult fare is $1850 pesos ($99 dollars) and their fare for children 3 to 11 years old and seniors 60 years old or older is $925 pesos ($50 dollars). Children 0 to 2 years old are admitted for free.

Here’s what you must know before traveling with Baja Ferries

The duration of a ferry trip depends on the route you're taking: to the port of Mazatlán, it is 14 hours and to the port of Topolobampo it is 9 hours approximately.

In order to take a trip with Baja Ferries, you must show an official ID. These are the IDs currently accepted:

  • Official valid ID issued by the National Electoral Institute (INE)
  • Valid passport
  • Professional valid license card with a photograph

When it comes the children, the documents accepted are:

  • Birth certificate
  • ID issued by public or private education institution with official validity, photograph, and signature
  • Passport

If you are foreigner:

  • Valid immigration passport or matching documents, issued by the proper authorities (depending on the case, an immigration extension or endorsement is allowed)

What is known about the Ensenada-San Diego ferry line

According to Azteca Ferries, the company in charge of operating this ferry, the ship will carry more than 300 passengers per trip and it already has a section on their website for this service. Though you cannot purchase tickets yet, schedules are already available.

Departure boat times from San Diego to Ensenada will be 11:30 to 14:30 and 19:00 to 21:30. Meanwhile, departure times from Ensenada to San Diego will be from 7:00 to 9:30 and from 15:00 to 17:30.
