The 12th edition of Ópera Frente al Mar (Opera By the Sea) is presenting its Primer Encuentro Operístico Rosarito 2024 (1st Operatic Conference Rosarito 2024), a free event whose goal is to bring together expert masters and professional and semiprofessional singers who will offer a comprehensive and entertaining guide on how to artistically appreciate this music genre.

COTUCO Rosarito authorities are encouraging residents and tourists to take part in this unprecedented event in which regional and internationally renowned musical artists will participate.

This celebration of everything related to opera began on Saturday, July 27 and it is currently taking place at Centro Estatal de las Artes (CEART) Playas de Rosarito, considered one of the most beautiful artistic and cultural centers of Baja California. Its opening ceremony dazzled with a Chinese lion dance in cooperation with the Chinese Martial Arts and Lion Dance Institute.

This event is bringing together incredible Baja Californian bel canto singers (vocal technique whose highest level of popularity was in the 19th century) and master experts; chief among them Marí Katzarava, the first Mexican woman to be awarded the "Operalia" in 2008 in the Zarzuela category. Masters Carlos Conde, Andrés Sarre, and other renowned opera singers will also be a part of this musical event!

Several musical rehearsals this week that you will be able to listen for free will take place, not to mention lectures, master classes, and dance performances!

During these days, artists will interact with the public, providing all opera and singing fans the chance to learn more about this genre and discover their true passion.

Renowned Puerto Rican singer and master Carlos Conde will be part of Primer Encuentro Operístico Rosarito, where he will teach the class “Perfeccionamiento Operístico” (Operatic Perfection) at room #2 in CEART. This class will take place from 9 AM to 6 PM on July 30 and July 31 and August 1. Conde, who trained in opera at the prestigious Juilliard School and has a doctorate in Musical Arts from New York State University, will share all of his experience and knowledge with attendants.

Artists will also teach classes on how to train, prepare, create, and set up a musical show (Opera) and attendants will be able to participate as class listeners in lectures that will take place from 9 AM to 9 PM until Saturday, August 3.

All throughout the week, the public will be able to follow up closely how these artists prepare all leading to the grand finale of their final presentation on Saturday, August 3 with Ópera Frente al Mar in CEART Playas de Rosarito. Master Mario Montenegro, director of Ópera Explícita, will guide this opera experience making sure that the audience understands and appreciates every part and piece of this work of musical art.

The other theme of Opera By the Sea will be "Death between flowers and tapestry", as every performed piece will have a main theme that will bring you back to flowers and death. Although every artwork has different tempos, Montenegro will explain every detail in the most pleasant manner during the opera tour so that you are never lost.

Il Bacio Di Tosca, a special concert you cannot miss

There will be a gala dinner, the only event with a cost, titled "Il Bacio Di Tosca". It will take place at CEART Playas de Rosarito under the musical direction of Master Andrés Sarre, and it is an adaptation of the opera by Giacomo Puccini to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his death.

Among the people who will participate at this event, there are César Sánchez as Mario Cavaradossi, Javier Carrillo as Il Barone Scarpia, Mario Quintanar as Spoletta, and a special performance by Master Carlos Conde as Sgrestano, alongside Ópera Explícita with narration by Mario Montenegro.

Enjoy this amazing event at the International Gallery of CEART Playas de Rosarito on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 7 PM. Cost of admission will be $500 pesos ($27 dollars). Explore Festival Ópera Frente al Mar, a family friendly event

Festival Ópera Frente al Mar is a family friendly event with gastronomic options, conferences, workshops, assemblies, and much more. On August 3, when the opera performance takes place, there will be an 8-hour festival that will begin at 2 PM and end at around 10 PM.

The goal of this event is to create a taste in young Baja Californian people for opera, planting the seed of what will become Rosarito's Vocal School. Classes for the September-December period will begin soon and, for next year, it is expected that Rosarito natives themselves participate!

Currently, talks are being held with master Carlos Conde so that he is the one teaching these classes in order to make of Playas de Rosarito an essential location for the development of opera In Mexico. The internationally renowned baritone has had the chance to share stages with great performers of this genre such as Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti!
