Leading the Regional Security Meeting that took place in the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño and Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda agreed to strengthen security work in Sonora and Baja California by implementing a comprehensive model that allows for a Single Command that will work on operational and preventive tasks in the San Luis Río Colorado and Valle de Mexicali area.
The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, said that joint work with federal institutions such as the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the National Guard, and the Secretariat of the Navy will be crucial and will allow for greater control of the area.
"The actions that were taken here in Sonora I think this was all necessary to hit crime head on. We need a plan that allows us to work with the army and the navy, and have that kind of coordination," she said.
The state governor of Sonora emphasized the importance of addressing issues regarding organized crime with a comprehensive vision by authorities of the three levels of government that allows for geopolitical coordinated work without jurisdictional limits.
"We need to build a model that allows us to make the coordination of the Army, the National Guard, and the Secretariat of the Navy more efficient. We need to strengthen many of the qualities that would allow us to have better municipal security agencies," he stated.
At this Regional Security Meeting, results from July 22 to July 29 were shown, once the Single Police Command in San Luis Río Colorado was implemented. A drop of 50% in intentional homicides (6) was registered, in regards to the last two weeks where 13 and 12 were registered, respectively.
As part of the results of these interinstitutional joint operations and the permanent deployment of the 45th Military Zone in the San Luis Río Colorado area, the seizure of 403.46 kilos of marihuana stands out.
In these operations, 508.52 kilos of cocaine; 91.37 kilos of fentanyl; 1,662.01 kilos of methamphetamine; 339 firearms; 1,307 magazines, and 46,007 cartridges were seized. In addition, 187 vehicles and 13 armored vehicles were also confiscated.
