INEGI reveals important data regarding security perception in Tijuana

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) highlighted the numbers presented by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics (INEGI) regarding insecurity perception in the city

Knowing that the insecurity issue is dynamic and faces constant challenges, authorities of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) highlighted the numbers presented by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics (INEGI) regarding insecurity perception in Tijuana.

As such and with a very thorough analysis, it turned out that the most recent National Survey of Urban Public Security (ENSU) revealed that in the 2nd semester of 2024, insecurity perception dropped 19.4% regarding car thefts and house robberies compared to the previous administration's last trimester.

Meanwhile, when it comes to shots by firearms and violence in communities, there was a drop of 12.1% regarding people who said that they heard shots or registered violent acts in their communities.

Regarding drug sales, 15.1% of people over 18 said that drug sales decreased in their communities.

And regarding citizen support, within this compared period, there was an increase by 4% of people's trust in the Municipal Police, which is a result of the arrest of several criminals and an exhaustive work on crime prevention in communities, schools, and work centers.

Due to this, the Secretary of Municipal Security, José Fernando Sánchez González, stated that these numbers are encouraging as they motivate the agency of keeping a vision of continuously improving each and all of the protocols at this institution.

"We are aware of the problems that exist due to security. It is the most sensitive issue in our entire society. The dynamism in our city requires strenuous effort due to its dynamic population, but together, corporations, government branches, law making bodies, and citizens, we will recover peace and calm in our streets in our region and country," Sánchez González said.

Regarding recent aggressions against police officers, he said that all cases are investigated by several different agencies, and in some cases, they are the result of precise work against crime that is carried out alongside state and federal agencies, the Mexican Army, and the Secretariat of the Navy.

"There is still lots of work to do. Public security is an issue that doesn’t stop, but we won't lower our guard when fighting in a coordinated manner for the security of our Tijuana. We will continue to work in professionalization, fighting corruption, and achieving citizen participation," the official concluded.
