Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, elected federal deputy and former rector of Universidad de Sinaloa, is killed

The also former mayor of Culiacán was attacked by armed civilians

Authorities have reported the homicide of politician, academic, and businessman Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda which occurred last Thursday, July 25 in an attacked carried out by civilians armed with firearms.

According to information making rounds in the media, the 68-year-old elected federal deputy was driving on International Mexico Highway 15, in northern Culiacán near the town of La Presita, on his way to a family gathering.

At around 10 PM, at least 2 hit men in motorcycles fired against the vehicle that this representative had driven in several different occasions. It was said that the perpetrators of this crime had been following Melesio for a while before killing him.

In a last-ditch effort to save his life, a family member took the academic to a private clinic, but his injuries were too severe and he was declared dead at 10:30 PM.

For his part, the Attorney General of the State of Sinaloa, Sara Bruna Quiñonez, has spoken about this incident on social media to inform about the implementation of an investigation operation to bring those responsible for this murder to justice.

Who was Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda?

Born in October 1955, Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda stood out in the political scene of Sinaloa. He graduated as Pharmaceutical Biologist Chemist from Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS) where he became a rector years later.

He became the mayor of the municipality of Culiacán from 2011 to 2013 and founded the Sinaloa Party (PAS). He was also a local deputy and Secretary of Health of Sinaloa, prioritizing educational issues and social development during his term.
