The families of Tijuana gathered at Teniente Guerrero Park to enjoy the celebration and sing "Las Mañanitas" to Tijuana as it turns 135 years old since its founding.
On Wednesday evening, two hours before the 135th birthday of Tijuana, hundreds of people, among them local authorities, civil society organizations, and founding families, gathered at Parque Teniente Guerrero to celebrate the history of this young city that welcomes everyone with open arms and offers equal opportunities to every person.
Representing mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, the director of Social Communications and Public Relations of the 24th Municipal Administration of Tijuana, Miguel Ángel Torres Ponce, stated that thanks to interinstitutional coordination and civil society, it is now possible to open public spaces such as this one in order to celebrate our city.
The mayor has asked us to defend the image of our city. It is not enough to love Tijuana because it has given us everything. We cannot leave it in hands of those who wish to harm it, we need to defend it from our families so that it continues to be the Tijuana we love.
The Unidos por Tijuana "Cien Años de Esfuerzo" Association paid a heartfelt tribute to Ricardo Fitch García, whose legacy heading this association and organizing this event will last for generations, thanks to the effort, passion, and love for this city he always had in life.
We want you to enjoy and experience what Ricardo felt, because he fed off the love and feeling of being from Tijuana. Ricardo left us a legacy that we hope to continue for years so that your children and grandchildren value Tijuana because this city has given us everything: honor, dedication, and effort, that is what Tijuana means. Long live Tijuana!
All in all, more than 1,000 people, among them municipal officials, civil society organizations and dozens of families, came here to wish Tijuana a happy 135th birthday!
