Many tourists don't go to San Diego due to long lines at the border crossing that occur when getting into the United States and coming back to Mexico. These waiting times can be tedious and discouraging. However, this upcoming project promises to be a true solution to this problem.
The Mexican and US governments have collaborated to launch a new ferry service, designed to make long lines a thing of the past. This ferry will not only decrease waiting times, but it will transform the border crossing into a pleasant and relaxing experience, similar to vacations. Here is all the information about this new and attractive alternative.
Azteca Ferries, the company in charge of operating this ferry, will carry more than 300 passengers per trip and it already has a section on their website for this service where you can check out their schedules. It should be noted that you cannot buy tickets yet, but it is expected that they become available soon, as test trials have begun.
Departure times from San Diego to Ensenada will be 11:30 to 14:30 and 19:00 to 21:30. Meanwhile, departure times from Ensenada to San Diego will be from 7:00 to 9:30, and from 15:00 to 17:30.
It is still unknown when exactly this ferry will open, but estimated dates say that it will be in June. If test trials go according to plan, it is possible that that this opening date will become a reality.
This trip will last 2 hours in both directions and will cost $70 dollars per trip or $130 dollars for a round trip. These prices are not yet confirmed, and it is expected that final prices will be announced soon.
In addition, no fee has been given for vehicle transportation. Regarding the trip itself, which is 111 kilometers (69 miles) long from port to port, it will last around 2 hours and 15 minutes.
